What number do I call in an emergency?
Short answer
191 is the general emergency line and 1669 gets an ambulance. As a visitor, the number to actually memorise is 1155 — the Tourist Police.
The two core numbers
The government's own list puts 191 as the emergency hotline and 1669 as emergency medical services. Those are the two that dispatch help — police for the first, an ambulance for the second.
There is no single all-purpose number doing the routing, so knowing which of the two you need is part of the call.
Why 1155 exists, and why it is yours
Thailand runs a dedicated Tourist Police force on its own short number, 1155. It exists precisely for the situations visitors land in — disputes, scams, lost documents, trouble in tourist areas — and it is set up to handle foreigners.
For anything that is a problem but not an unfolding emergency, starting at 1155 usually beats starting at 191, because the person answering expects a tourist on the line.
The longer list, for the day you need it
The government list runs deeper: 1193 for highway patrol, 1178 for immigration police, 192 for the disaster warning centre, and 1672 for the tourist assistance centre run by the tourism authority.
Nobody memorises all of those. Save 191, 1669 and 1155 in your phone on arrival, and let the rest live in a note you can find.
