Privacy and cookies
What this site collects, what the advertising sets in your browser, and how to switch the personalised part of it off.
What this site collects
Nothing you type, because there is nothing to type into. There are no accounts, no logins, no comment boxes and no newsletter. Every page is a static file, so the site sets no cookies of its own, stores nothing in your browser and runs no analytics.
That means there is no visitor database here to lose, sell or hand over. What follows is about the other companies whose files these pages load, because that is where data actually goes.
Hosting, fonts and server logs
The pages and photographs are served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web server, it records the request itself: an IP address, the page asked for, the time, and the browser's user-agent string. Cloudflare keeps that to operate and protect the service under its own policy. This site does not read those logs and does not use them to build a picture of anyone.
The typeface is loaded from Google Fonts, so the request for it reaches Google's servers carrying your IP address, as a request to any server does. Google states that Google Fonts sets no cookies and that these requests are not used for advertising or profiling.
Advertising and third-party cookies
Pages carry advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners are third parties, and they place cookies and read similar identifiers in your browser to choose which ad to show, to limit how often you see the same one, and to measure whether it was seen or clicked. Some of those ads are personalised, which means they draw on pages you have visited before, here and elsewhere.
That data is collected and used by Google under its own policy, not by this site. Nothing about you is sent from here to an advertiser, and this site never sees your browsing history — only totals, such as how many times an ad on a page was shown.
Consent, where the law requires it
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a consent notice appears before any advertising cookie is set, and advertising cookies are set only if you accept. The notice can be reopened to change or withdraw that answer at any time.
Withdrawing it costs you nothing here. No page, answer or photograph is behind consent, and nothing on this site stops working without a cookie.
Turning personalised advertising off
Personalised advertising can be switched off anywhere in the world, consent notice or not. Ads still appear; they simply stop being chosen from your history. The first link below covers Google. The other two switch off many advertising companies at once and are the shorter route if you would rather not do them one by one.
Your browser holds the blunter instrument: it can block or delete third-party cookies for this site or for every site. Nothing here breaks if you do.

Affiliate links
Some links to travel services — connectivity, transit passes, airport transfers — pay a commission if you book after following one. Following such a link usually lets the destination site record that you arrived from here, normally through a cookie it sets on its own domain, so a later booking can be credited. That happens on their site and under their policy, and no personal detail about you is passed from here.
The commission changes nothing about what is written. No answer exists because a link exists, and no placement on this site is paid for.
If any of this changes
A different ad provider, an analytics tool, anything at all that would collect more than the above: this page is rewritten before the change goes live rather than after, and the date below moves with it.
