How do you get from the airport into the city?

The airport railroad

A dedicated railway connects both Incheon terminals to Seoul Station, with stops on the way. It is the cheapest option, it is unaffected by traffic, and your transit card works on it like any other train.

The line is the reliable choice precisely because it cannot be delayed by the road. On a weekday afternoon that difference is not small.

Limousine buses

Buses leave from the arrivals level and run to hotel clusters and residential districts the railway does not serve. They put you closer to the door with a large bag, and the luggage goes in the hold rather than on your knees.

The trade is traffic. A bus that would take an hour at midday can take considerably longer in the evening.

Taxis

Taxis are metered and available around the clock, and from Incheon they are expensive because the airport is genuinely far from Seoul. There is a late-night surcharge on top.

For two or more people arriving after the trains stop, a taxi stops looking unreasonable — which is the situation it is actually for.

Good to know

• Buy or top up a transit card at a convenience store in the arrivals hall before you board anything
• Both Incheon terminals have their own station, so check which terminal you landed at before following signs
